Last night, guests took to the 6th floor Loft for a conversation surrounding the history that influenced our new exhibition, 'Hip-Hop: Conscious, Unconscious'. Panelists included Mass Appeal Creative Director and exhibition co-curator Sacha Jenkins, co-curator Sally Berman @runred, exhibiting photographers T. Eric Monroe @tdoteric and Joe Conzo @joeconzo , and historian and Universal Hip Hop Museum (@UHHMuseum) co-curator Pete Nice @rushtown298 .
The evening was full of vibrant storytelling through rare perspectives, highlighting the significance of hip-hop's 50 year cultural journey. More than just a genre of music, the evolution of hip-hop has left a remarkable global impact.
'Hip-Hop: Conscious, Unconscious' is on view through May 30th.
JANUARY - MAY 2023
My portraits of @2pac @thenotoriousbig @lilcease @bustarhymes & @mslaurynhill are featured alongside many historic moments in Hiphop at: ‘Hip-Hop: Conscious, Unconscious’, that opened January 26th.
Together with @massappeal and @hiphop50, we’re creating the definitive destination for celebrating hip-hop’s global impact on visual expression – a traveling exhibition and immersive experience bringing together a roster of artists who have documented this cultural phenomenon.
On view through May 2023, ‘Hip-Hop: Conscious, Unconscious’ features over 200 photographs, and traces the rise and proliferation of hip-hop through five decades of work from trailblazing image-makers who helped codify hip-hop as the most influential pop culture movement of its generation.
Taking over two museum floors, the exhibition is presented in collaboration with @chase @marriottbonvoy credit cards and adds to Mass Appeal’s Hip Hop 50 cross-platform initiative - a manifestation of the company’s commitment to celebrating the culture in the most authentic and globally impactful way possible.
